Orlando Cela and Wei Zhao, flutes
Venezuelan-born Orlando Cela is committed to engaging audiences with lively and imaginative programming. He has performed at the National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian, the Zentrum Danziger (Berlin), the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Espace des Femmes (Paris), and at the Musikverein (Vienna). Chinese flutist Wei Zhao has performed as principal flute with orchestras around China, most recently in performances with Tan Dun, the National Center for the Performing Arts Orchestra, and the Bolshoi Ballet tour in Beijing.
Together, they created Duo Zonda to develop the sonic possibilities of the flute in its many forms, using different western classical flutes and folk flutes from all over the world, to explore, rediscover, and create new sound landscapes. Since its inception in 2016, Duo Zonda has performed over a hundred premieres across the US and Europe.
