Our Impact

For more than 60 years Bay Chamber has committed itself to bringing excellence to Midcoast Maine. We are proud of the community we serve and the role we play in allowing the arts to be an engine of creativity and joy, a site for intersection and engagement, and a vital facet of our diverse community. By fostering the talent and passion of musicians across Maine we build a bridge between classical music and community engagement while our performance series, which brings a wide variety of professional musicians to our doorstep, allows for the solace, healing, and beauty of chamber music to be shared.

Our Concert Series

We have a rich history of sharing unparalleled live performance experiences with our community. From groundbreaking contemporary music to programming from the classical tradition, our mission is to support and encourage a diverse array of musical endeavors that speak to the moment we live in as well as the history from which we have emerged.

Our Music School

At Bay Chamber, we believe in the transformative power of music. It inspires, challenges and consoles. Through our deeply committed faculty we offer a wide array of opportunities for anyone hoping to benefit from learning to play an instrument. We have students from age 4 to 94 and everywhere in between.

what people are saying

Ina Wolovitz, Piano Student

“Music is so important to me. I've made friends through chamber music, learned about saving money through buying a piano, and of course, discovered the joy of sight-reading. It has provided me with a goal to pursue and pushed me to work hard, both mentally and physically. I think that music brings people together and that's one reason why it is so vital in communities. 20 people of all ages could be in one room with nothing in common except for the fact that they all love music.”

JAMES AUSTIN SMITH, OBOist and bay chamber Summer Artist

“I still, after a few years, can’t quite place my finger on what makes Bay Chamber Concerts so singular. Is it the slow, steady drive up from Portland? Is it the first glimpse of Rockport Harbor? The musty old smell of the opera house or the glorious atmosphere of Union Hall? Or is it the kind, enthusiastic, music-loving Mainers (ok ok some are summer Mainers!) who have become such familiar faces? Whatever it is, a summer without Bay Chamber Concerts is a summer too many. Cheers to health, happiness and live music in 2021!”

Robin Lane, FORMER Cello STUDENT

“Music gives me a sense of purpose in life. I am pursuing a professional career in music with the purpose of healing, enlightening and enriching other’s lives. Throughout history, music and the arts have been crucial for the way in which communities express themselves and connect with each other. Within the past few hundred years, as different communities have been exposed to each other, music and the arts are a way in which those communities can connect and understand each other’s ways of life. In recent years and as we move into the future, music and arts are an expression of different communities and cultures blending together, creating a richer expression of the human experience.”
