Bridget Kibbey, harp, Mahsa Vahdat, voice, John Hadfield, percussion
Bridget Kibbey “…made it seem as though her instrument had been waiting all its life to explode with the gorgeous colors and energetic figures she was getting from it.” The New York Times
From the Islamic Golden Era through the African Maghreb, leading up to 16th century Andalusian Spain and touching upon Sephardic culture, harpist Bridget Kibbey explores migration stories across four genres of music, three continents and four centuries — tracing the movement of instruments, rhythm and modes across the globe during one of the most significant struggles for global domination.
With newly commissioned works performed alongside the folk music that inspired them, From Persia to Iberia features celebrated Iranian singer Mahsa Vahdat and Silk Road Ensemble’s percussionist John Hadfield joining Bridget in a program of melodies of the Kurdish, Sephardic, Persian traditions as well as works by Hadfield, Kibbey, Vahdat, Granados, Albeniz, Rodrigo, Luis di Milan, and Alonso Mudarra.
