Turning Point: Andrew Wolf Memorial Concert

Thursday, August 4 | 7:30 PM | Rockport Opera House

35 +: $45 | 22-34: $20 | 21 & Under: Pay What You Wish

MICHELLE CANN, piano

AEOLUS QUARTET (NICHOLAS TAVANI, RACHEL SHAPIRO, violins, CAITLIN LYNCH, viola and GABRIEL CABEZAS, cello)

Two musical masterpieces, both representing creative direction changes; Beethoven’s early quartet hints at what was to follow in his middle and late period works; the personal and artistic journey for Brahms’ Piano Quintet took many twists and turns. The works are magnificent as arrival points in musical history and as the departure for the musical journey we will take together this summer.

We are enormously proud to welcome pianist Michelle Cann, our new Andrew Wolf Award winner. Michelle is the Eleanor Sokoloff Chair in Piano Studies at the Curtis Institute of Music and “a compelling, sparkling virtuoso” (Boston Music Intelligencer). The Andrew Wolf Award recognizes a pianist who has made a serious commitment and contribution to the landscape of chamber music. Michelle will be joined by the Aeolus Quartet, acclaimed for both “high-octane” excitement (The Strad) and “dusky lyricism” (The New York Times). The quartet has been awarded prizes at nearly every major competition in the United States and has performed across the globe.
